A capacidade da nasal airflow-inducing maneuver de devolver olfato aos pacientes laringectomizados: um estudo pré-pós

Objetivo: A laringectomia total (LT) provoca disfunção olfativa devido à desconexão entre a via aérea superior e inferior. Este estudo avalia a eficácia da nasal airflow-inducing maneuver (NAIM) na recuperação do olfato de pacientes laringectomizados.
Material e métodos: Um estudo pré-pós foi realizado em dois centros com 19 pacientes previamente submetidos a LT. A avaliação olfativa foi obtida subjetivamente com uma escala visual analógica e objetivamente com avaliação do limiar de odor com o teste de butanol e da identificação de odor com os Sniffin’ Sticks. A avaliação olfativa foi realizada antes (pré-NAIM) e novamente um mês após ter sido ensinada a técnica NAIM (pós-NAIM).
Resultados: 84.2% dos pacientes conseguiram recuperar olfato, com melhoria significativa em todos os testes olfativos realizados pós-NAIM.
Conclusões: A NAIM é uma técnica simples e eficaz para a reabilitação olfativa após LT, devendo ser integrada nos cuidados pós-operatórios destes pacientes de forma a melhorar a sua qualidade de vida.
